A journal to help busy minds let go
Ryu means “flow” in Japanese. That’s the whole idea. Ryu Journal is a quiet place to put a thought down and let it go — no accounts, no social feed, no pressure.
Write freely in a distraction-free editor, pull the journal down to reveal your streak, word cloud, and mood, and keep a gentle zen quote on your Home Screen.
Everything stays on your device. No tracking, no data collection. Your words belong to you.
“Let go or be dragged.”
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”
“The quieter you become, the more you can hear.”
“The obstacle is the path.”
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky.”
“When you realize nothing is lacking, the whole world belongs to you.”
“Sit quietly, doing nothing; spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.”
“Wherever you are, be there totally.”
“Smile, breathe, and go slowly.”
“Those who are the victors wrote the history. Those who suffered wrote the songs.”

The short version
Ryu Journal collects no data. Your journal never leaves your device.
What we store
Everything you write in Ryu Journal — entries, and the keywords, themes, and mood signals derived from them — is stored locally on your device. The Home Screen widget reads a small snapshot of your latest entry and its quotes from local storage shared only between the app and its widget. If you turn on app lock, your passcode is kept in your device's keychain and never leaves it. Trends uses the phone's motion sensors only to tilt its colors as you move; nothing from them is stored.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in — we never know who you are.
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting SDKs.
- No third-party services, ads, or trackers.
- No network requests carrying your content — the app works fully offline.
Your data, your control
You can delete any entry inside the app by pressing and holding it. To delete everything at once, pull the journal down to reveal Trends, tap Options, then tap Delete all posts. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. If you use iCloud device backups, your device may include the app's local data in your encrypted backup — that backup is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours, and we have no access to it.
Changes to this policy
If Ryu Journal ever changes how it handles data, this policy will be updated here before those changes ship, with the date above revised.
